Oralitos PE: Purifying for Fresh Breath

In the busy pace of life, we often overlook those small but far-reaching details—such as oral odor. It acts like an invisible barrier, silently creating distance between people and making every intimate conversation feel less comfortable.

But don't worry, JAKA's new oral care product Oralitos PE offers a new solution to this problem. Oralitos PE is a natural ingredient extracted from Phyllanthus emblica's fruits. It is a rich source of phenols and flavonoids known to have excellent antibacterial properties. During the product development process, we employed an innovative technology called a Non-Destructive Purification Technology.

Firstly, different parts of the Phyllanthus emblica fruit are extracted under specific conditions, utilizing the natural macromolecules contained within the plant to facilitate flocculation and remove impurities. Secondly, we optimized the composite purifying agent, achieving enrichment of active ingredients and decolorization in a single step, resulting in nearly zero loss of target components.

To thoroughly address halitosis, JAKA focus on the golden triangle of halitosis issues: bacteria, volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs), and inflammation.

Halitosis is further classified into physiological halitosis and pathological halitosis, and this article focuses on oral-source halitosis (where the odor originates in the oral cavity). Firstly, it is crucial to understand that the oral cavity is inhabited by a large number of microorganisms, primarily Gram-negative anaerobes. When these bacteria decompose protein substrates, they produce VSCs, ammonia, organic acids, and other substances, leading to oral odor. Local oral infections, including dental caries, thickened tongue coating, periodontitis /gingivitis, and hyposalivation, can all contribute to the production of VSCs. VSCs are the primary cause of oral malodor.

Additionally, poor oral hygiene can increase the proportion of Gram-negative and anaerobic bacteria, allowing endotoxins and catabolic enzymes to enter the gums, causing irritation and inflammation. Furthermore, VSCs can also induce inflammation in periodontal tissues.

After understanding the golden triangle of halitosis issues, we can conclude that inhibiting bacteria, suppressing the production of VSCs, and soothing inflammation are key to alleviating oral odor.

To verify the anti-bacteria effect of Oralitos PE, we tested its IC50 value and used chlorhexidine as a control (chlorhexidine is a broad-spectrum fungicide used in toothpaste). As shown in the following picture, Oralitos PE can effectively inhibit the growth of three types of oral odor-causing bacteria.

Furthermore, we conducted a 3D oral mucosal epithelial model stimulation experiment. Unlike cells, the 3D model possesses a more complete structure of oral mucosa, which is closer to our real oral cavity. We examined the impact of Oralitos PE on cytokine and related gene expression in the 3D oral mucosal epithelial model. As shown in the following picture, Oralitos PE inhibits the expression of IL-8 and PGE-2 proteins in the oral mucosal epithelial model induced by Fusobacterium nucleatum (F.n), while also downregulating the mRNA expression of TLR2. This suggests that it may alleviate the stimulation of halitosis-correlated bacteria on oral epithelia through the TLR2 pathway, reducing the irritant response and improve the oral microenvironment.

In clinical tests, we utilized the VSCs detector-- Halimeter breath tester, to assess both the immediate and long-term effects of Oralitos PE. We selected volunteers with VSCs levels exceeding 150ppb and quantitatively analyzed the change in VSCs levels after using products containing 5% Oralitos PE through Halimeter. The results indicated that Oralitos PE has excellent immediate and sustained efficacy in improving halitosis. Furthermore, after 28 days of continuous product use, evaluations conducted by oral medicine specialists revealed that over half of the subjects experienced varying degrees of improvement in oral odor and gingival bleeding. Additionally, based on self-assessments by the subjects, the majority found the taste of Oralitos PE acceptable.

Besides, Oral care products such as toothpaste, mouthwash, and mouth spray can all benefit from adding Oralitos PE. By incorporating this natural ingredient into your oral care formulas, you can enjoy the benefits of its antibacterial and odor-fighting properties. So, if you are looking for a natural way to maintain good oral hygiene, Oralitos PE is an excellent ingredient to consider.
